February 15, 2006 According to the Hollywood Reporter Universal Pictures has acquired the rights to Christian Gossett’s comic book series The Red Star. Universal acquired the property for Russian director Timur Bekmambetov, whose special effects-heavy Night Watch film out-earned both Spider-man 2 and Star Wars at the Russian box office.
Set in an alternate history version of the Soviet Union, The Red Star weaves magic, militarism and a monolithic totalitarian society into a stylish tapestry of war and conquest.
