Mayday Comic Book Optioned

April 30, 2015 Imperative Entertainment, the company run by Heroes creator Tim Kring as well as Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas and Zak Kadison, has optioned the rights to Mayday, the new comic book from Black Mask Studios.

The company intends to adapt the material for a scripted TV series.

The Imperative principals will executive produce the series, along with Brett Gurewitz and Matt Pizzolo of Black Mask.

The comic, which hit stores Thursday, centers on a washed-up, drug-addicted Hollywood screenwriter who discovers a Satanic cult’s plan to bring about Armageddon by sacrificing people around Los Angeles. He finds himself on the path to stop the cultists, but at the same time begins to wonder if the whole affair is  a product of his drug-addled imagination.

Curt Pires wrote the comic, while Chris Peterson did the art.

The project is currently out to writers.

Black Mask is the upstart transmedia and publishing company founded by comic book writer Steve Niles, Pizzolo, and Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph Records CEO Gurewitz. Its comic Five Ghosts is set up at UCP and Syfy, and The Disciples is at UCP with Wes Craven executive producing.

Imperative, founded in 2014, is focused on the development, production and financing of original and branded entertainment across all media including film, television, video games, books, comics and new media. It is currently producing Heroes Reborn for NBC.
