April 8, 2015 Jupiter’s Legacy is the latest Mark Millar co-creation to get optioned for a feature film adaptation.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, film mogul Lorenzo di Bonaventura has optioned the comic book series by Millar and co-creator/artist Frank Quitely. This would be di Bonaventura’s second partnership with Millar, as he previously optioned the comic series MPH by Millar and Duncan Fegredo.
di Bonaventura is one of the key producers of popular genre filmmaking, being a major part of both the Matrix Harry Potter film franchises while working as an executive at Warner Bros Pictures. In recent years he started his own production company, which has developed both the Transformers and G.I. Joe film franchises, as well as film adaptations of the comics Red, Stardust and Constantine.
“What appealed to me [about Jupiter’s Legacy] was the emotional weight of the family dynamic in Shakespearean fashion,” di Bonaventura says. “It is also unique in a world where there are many similar super hero movies and IP.”
Jupiter’s Legacy’s first miniseries is out now, with a companion prequel by Millar and artist Wilfredo debuting this week called Jupiter’s Circle. Millar and Quitely have plans to return for a second Jupiter’s Legacy miniseries in the future.
