Lionsgate is teaming with comic book publisher Double Take to turn the zombie-themed graphic novel Z-Men into a movie.
Written by creator Jeff McComsey, Z-Men is the flagship title from Double Take, the comic book arm of video game developer and publisher Take-Two Interactive Software. The graphic novel starts like an old-school buddy movie set in the time and place of the horror classic Night of the Living Dead.
Agents Stuart and Clancy of the Secret Service are asked to find a zombie. At first, they find zombies ambling around town, munching on the townsfolk. The agents then see the bigger picture and find themselves swept up in an apocalypse.
This is Lionsgate’s second movie adaptation with Take-Two, which is partnering with the studio and Marvel Studios founder Avi Arad and Ari Arad to turn Gearbox Software’s popular video game Borderlands into a tentpole feature film.
“We’re delighted to expand our relationship with our friends at Take-Two by partnering with their comic book arm, Double Take, in bringing Z-Men to the big screen,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger in a statement on Tuesday.
The comic book-to-movie adaptation deal was negotiated by Lionsgate Motion Picture Group president of business & legal affairs Patricia Laucella.
