The Strain has been picked up to series on the FX for 13 episodes beginning July 2014. The vampire drams focuses on a parasitic, vampire virus that begins in New York and poises a threat to the entire world. Guillermo del Toro originally envisioned the The Strain as a tv series but he was unable to find a buyer and his agent suggested that he partner with Chuck Hogan and turn the story into a novel. Four years later, del Toro’s original vision for the property is set to come to life. David Lapham and artist Mike Huddleston have turned The Strain into a comic book series for Dark Horse which is currently ongoing. Carlton Cuse (Loset, Bates Motel) will serve as an executive producer alongside del Toro and Hogan.
Said del Toro, “The Strain books are near and dear to my heart and now, Chuck and I have the blessing of a partnership with Carlton and FX that holds great promise. Working with FX has yielded an amazing experience with total creative freedom and support.”
The cast includes Sean Astin (The Lord of the Ring: The Return of the King), John Hurt (V for Vendetta, Snowpiercer), Kevin Durand (The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Corey Stoll (House of Cards), Robert Maillet (Pacific Rim, 300) and Leslie Hope (24, Revolution).
