Super Bad James Dynomite Comic Book Optioned

May 16, 2007 Rogue Pictures has optioned the rights to the Wayans Brothers’ comicbook series, SUPER BAD JAMES DYNOMITE, and the action/comedy movie adaptation, DYNOMITE, that the Wayanses are preparing.

Keenen Ivory Wayans, Marlon Wayans and Shawn Wayans will produce DYNOMITE with Rick Alvarez. The original comicbook series was created and written by the three brothers. Marlon and Shawn Wayans have written the feature screenplay with Xavier Cook & Mitchell Marchand. Creative exec Paul Getto is overseeing the project for Rogue, which will hold worldwide distribution rights to DYNOMITE. Lisa Blum will exec produce.

Marlon Wayans will star as Super Bad James Dynomite, an ex-cop turned neighborhood hero who delivers his unique brand of justice in New York City. Dynomite has it all… until the day he is convicted of a crime he didn’t commit. When he is released from jail years later, he is still the same, but most cope with a world that has changed. While regaining his cool, Dynomite vows to take down the man responsible for his incarceration — a criminal mastermind who has become the mayor of the city.

The complete IDW-published five-comic series will be issued in a compilation book later this month.

Marlon Wayans commented, “When we created the comicbook, SUPER BAD JAMES DYNOMITE, I always envisioned playing the title character on the big screen. I’m really happy that Rogue shares our excitement for such edgy comedy and to be working again with Andrew Rona, with whom we had such great fun and success on our Scary Movie franchise.”

Rogue co-presidents Andrew Karpen and Andrew Rona said, “The Wayans Brothers’ style and storytelling are unique and irrepressible, and their track record with wild humor is second to none. DYNOMITE will be a laugh-out-loud comedy with plenty of exciting action.”

Rogue Pictures ( is devoted to producing and distributing high-quality suspense, action, thriller, comedy and urban entertainment with mainstream appeal and franchise potential.
