May 29, 2015 Boom Studios’ Lumberjanes is being made into a big-screen feature film.
What’s Lumberjanes? It’s a comic book created by women, written and drawn by women, and starring an all-female cast. The Lumberjanes are a group of five girls at a scouting summer camp (“…for Hardcore Lady Types”) who find all sorts of strange supernatural creatures around their camp and set out to discover what’s going on. Its tone is described as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Gravity Falls,” and each issue is published with quirky bits like a sash with the latest scout badges earned by the main characters on the back page, and a mixtape track listing to go with the issue.
Lumberjanes launched in 2014 as an eight-issue miniseries, but it was promoted to an ongoing series when it garnered strong sales figures and critical acclaim.
