Lore Comic Book Optioned

July 30, 2010 After last year’s San Diego Comic-Con International, Ashley Wood sold the film rights for “World War Robot” to Jerry Bruckheimer. Keeping his Comic-Con tradition alive, Wood optioned another property coming out of this year’s show.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wood and his wife/collaborator T.P. Louise have sold the rights for “Lore” to Mad Chance and Circle of Confusion. Cory Goodman (“Priest”) and Jeremy Lott are attached to write the screenplay. Goodman has recently written the screenplay for the remake of David Cronenberg’s “The Brood.”

The story is said to be about a young man who is reluctantly drawn into a secret order calling themselves Shepherds who are charging with protecting humanity from the monsters and witches of folklore. The producers reportedly view “Lore” as a potential “Men in Black” style action-adventure franchise.

“Lore” was originally published in 2003 by IDW as a five issue limited series.

Wood is also attached to the “Lore” film as an executive producer along with IDW’s Ted Adams. Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance and Circle of Confusion’s Rick Jacobs are also on board as producers.

Circle of Confusion has optioned and produced numerous comic projects in the last few years, including Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillip’s “Incognito,” Rick Remender and Kieron Dwyer’s “Night Mary,” Nick Spencer and Ronald Salas’ “Existence 2.0” and “The Walking Dead,” the highly anticipated adaptation of Robert Kirkman and Charlie Adlard’s zombie epic.
