March 20, 2015 Legendary horror filmmaker Wes Craven is teaming up with comic book author Steve Niles to bring an adaptation of The Disciples to the small screen. Universal Cable Productions is currently in the process of picking up the rights to Steve Niles’ The Disciples, which won’t be published until May from Black Mask Studios. If Universal Cable Productions does pick up the rights to this comic, it is unclear what network it may land at, but a safe bet would likely be Syfy, which is controlled by NBC Universal.
The Disciples centers on three private detectives/bounty hunters named Dagmar, Rick and Jules, who have been hired by a powerful Senator to find his daughter, after she ran away to join a dangerous cult, known as The Disciples. The cult members are made up of the elite and wealthy, who have begun colonizing other moons throughout the solar system. The plot also follows billionaire McCauley Richmond, who has built a new society on a Ganymede, a moon of Jupiter, where a flock of cult members worship him. But when the bounty hunters descend on the planet, they realize something has gone terribly awry.Wes Craven and Steve Niles will serve as executive producers, alongside Industry Entertainment’s Sara Bottfeld and Black Mask co-founder Matt Pizzolo. This project marks a rare TV foray for Wes Craven. He created the horror anthology series Nightmare Cafe back in 1992, and he is also serving as an executive producer on MTV’s Scream, based on the director’s feature film franchise of the same name.
